Innovation and urbanisation have obscured the relationship between humans and nature. My work attempts to unify this bond by romanticizing the landscape. Through infrared monochrome photography, I interweave abstraction and realism to create images that are recognizable yet unfamiliar. This approach creates images that do not represent the landscape exactly as it exists but as a faded memory of a place you long to return to.
When I create photographs, I immerse myself within the landscape. I allow myself to be present which creates space for emotions to guide me as I react to the beauty of the natural world. My process is mostly observational. I often travel by foot; sometimes covering long distances over the course of several days. I frequently travel alone through the darkness, running through twilight searching for an emotional response to my environment. I photograph primarily during transitional periods of time (after sunset, before sunrise and during weather events) which allows my images to express a dream-like quality.
